Dragon European Championship 2011

Post by Webmaster » Fri Jan 21, 2011 12:36 pm

2011 European Championship of the Dragon Class in Germany - BMW to be key partner for the Dragon class.

BMW AG will support, as the automobile co-partner of the Dragon class, the 2011 European Championship of the Dragon class, which takes place in Germany for the first time in more than 20 years. The European Dragon Championship will be hosted by the hotel and marina complex “Weisse Wiek” (‘White Bay’) at Boltenhagen at the Baltic coast of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

As presenting sponsor the Transbunker Group will support the event. Transbunker is a privately owned international oil trading, oil storage and bunkering company whose founder and principal shareholder is a dedicated sailor and also the sponsor of the currently leading three Dragon crews worldwide.

The “Weisse Wiek” hotel and marina complex hosted successfully in 2010 the Dragon Grand Prix Germany, the fifth time it was held in Germany and the first time in Boltenhagen. It was a highly successful prelude to the 2011 European Championship and established the “Weisse Wiek” hotel and marina complex as one of the outstanding new sailing venues worldwide . As a result, the International Dragon Association assigned the European Championship to the Marina Boltenhagen from 03 of July – 08 of July 2011.

The world-elite of the Dragon sailors is expected for the 2011 European Championship. The reigning European Champion and new World Vice Champion, Markus Wieser, who is also an ambassador on behalf of BMW and a member of the prolific Transbunker sailing team, will defend his European Championship title for the third time in succession.

The world-wide number one ranked Dragon sailor, Anatoly Loginov from Russia, as well as the vice-world champion 2009, Lars Hendriksen from Denmark, will also be at the starting line.

The Dragon class is often referred to as the royal class, because King Konstantin of Greece won the first gold medal for Greece in sailing in 1960 and a number of other European royal family members are actively involved in the Dragon class. The level of competition in this class is extremely high: more than 40 of the current competitors are winners of Olympic medals, World-and European champion titles.

The Dragon class supports a major charitable foundation. For the 7th time in succession and as a prelude to the European Championship the CHILDHOOD Race will be sailed, on Sunday, 3rd of July 2011, in favor of the World Childhood Foundation, founded by her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden.

Close to 1 million Euro have been raised in the past with the help of the CHILDHOOD races for the World CHILDHOOD Foundation - under the motto “top dragon class sailing for children in need”.

Post by Webmaster » Tue Jun 07, 2011 10:34 pm

World’s top dragon sailors have entered for the European Championship in Boltenhagen.

7th CHILDHOOD Race for children in need.

75 qualified dragons from 15 nations taking part in the Europeans imply a world class range of participants and exceed the number of participants and internationality of the World Championship in Melbourne in January 2011.

From July 3rd to July 8th, the world elite of dragon sailors is going to compete for the title of the European Championship.

The reigning European Champion and new World Vice Champion from the Ukrainian Transbunker Sailing team, the German Markus Wieser and the leader of the international world ranking list, the Russian Anatoly Loginov, as well as the vice-world champion 2009, Lars Hendriksen from Denmark, will be on the starting line. 18 helmsmen of the top 20 ranking list will compete and with Gavia Wilkinson-Cox (GBR) and the Australian Olga White, starting for Russia, two yachtswomen of the top 20 ranking list will participate.

The Russian dragon fleet with 17 qualified teams represents the largest foreign nation.

The Dragon class supports a major charitable foundation. For the 7th time in succession and as a prelude to the European Championship the CHILDHOOD Race will be sailed, on Sunday, 3rd of July 2011, in favour of the World Childhood Foundation, founded by her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden. Close to 1 million Euro have been raised in the past with the help of the CHILDHOOD races for the World CHILDHOOD Foundation - using the motto “top dragon class sailing for children in need”. More than 35 companies are supporting this idea with valuable prizes and gifts for the sailors.

BMW as official automobile partner of the Dragon class offers an interesting programme for the sailors on shore, as for example the BMW yachtsport lounge, a car exhibition and test drives. The winner of the Dragon Grand Prix, a special scoring within the Championship, receives an exclusive touring bike of BMW.

The Weiße Wiek, location of the European Championship, has extended its reputation for a unique destination for an exclusive and high class sailing event.
