Day one is over

The first race of the Russian Dragon Open Championship 2017 turned out the only one for the first day: tricky weather played its role and the wind suddenly disappeared.
In firm rivalry the yacht led by Alexey Murashkin (RUS12) came first. Dmitry Samokhin (RUS76) took the second place and Vasily Senatorov (RUS34) finished the third. The fourth was his brother Mikhail Senatorov (RUS31), and the 5th place was taken by Boris Latkin (RUS46).
In the “Classic” score first places were distributed as follows: Sergey Bakharev (RUS84), Victor Los (RUS22), Gleb Suloev (RUS11).

Alexey Murashkin:
– It was a very interesting race. Breeze was light, and that gave us a chance to feel each other – in our first race together. Lots of thanks to Anatoly Loginov for the opportunity to participate in competitions together with the current prize holders of this class World Championship. It was really interesting and I liked it.
The race was held in a stubborn struggle – the wind was enough for it. During it, we were both second and third, just on the verge. And only in the last upwind we took the first place. Now we have to win the championship without any excuses (laughs – noted by editor).

Vladimir Komel, Principal Race Officer:
– Actually, there was wind in the morning. Not too strong, but 5-6 knots. Then it decreased to 4 and remained with steady direction. And the race turned out interesting – leaders changed from gate to gate. Firstly, Vasily Senatorov (RUS34) took the leadership. Dmitry Samokhin (RUS76) came to the first mark 8th or 9th, nevertheless the final upwind looked like match-race. Finally, Alexei Murashkin (RUS12) won, somehow gaining speed. Not that Samokhin didn’t work out – they tried very hard. But...
As for the second race, the wind, unfortunately, was not enough. They waited, they waited... But I looked to the Kronstadt and saw nothing, but a complete calm. The racers were also tired of waiting. So, the weather has made its own corrections again. You know, I'm afraid to look at the forecasts. Today, for example, the east wind with attenuation after lunch was predicted. And when we came to the distance, wind turn to a clean west, which was enough for an hour and a half only. The first time any weather forecast website did not work.

Tomorrow, July, 28, the first race is scheduled for noon.

The 3-rd day is over.
The Russian Dragon Open Championship 2017 brings changes into the language: from now, words "day" and "race" can be synonims. Funny or not, there was only one race in the third day - like in previous ones.

But the tension raises: there are only two points between three leading teams.

Tomorrow, July, 30, two races are scheduled, and the first one starts at eleven a.m.
