With the Sanremo International Dragon Cup and Italian National Open Championship, 22-25 March, behind them, Italian Sailors are looking forward to, and preparing for, next events in their circuit, notably Alassio Dragon Week, 20-22 April, and then Viareggio, 19-20 May. But Dragon lovers are not limited to the north of Italy, as we have some in Naples and others in the Adriatic Sea. This is why Italian regattas have two notable additions, Naples, 22-24 June and Civitanova, 4-5 August. We have already presented the Regate Internazionali di Napoli to you, see http://www.intdragon.org/forum/viewtopi ... =59&t=1017. Today we would like to introduce you to Civitanova.
No doubt, Civitanova Marche on the Adriatic Sea, in the Macerata Province, has a tremendous appeal and all the ingredients to become an important Dragon racing destination: a culturally rich territory, steady summer breezes, a very active and dynamic Yacht Club with many sport activities, and well-maintained beaches.
Civitanova is a tale of two cities, as often around the Italian coast: Porto Civitanova, where the harbour, the yacht club and seafood restaurants are, and Civitanova Alta, the cultural centre, with its Opera House, a museum, several interesting palaces and its shopping centre. All are sure attractions for the art lover and the like. The territory around Civitanova offers plenty to see and visit, from Recanati, where Leopardi, the 1800 Italian poet was born, or Macerata city itself, or the many castles and abbeys dotting the region.
Art and local cuisine often go hand in hand as the is the case for Civitanova. Fresh fish and other sea food are the main ingredients accompanied by excellent locally produced white wines.
This is why Cristiana Mazzaferro, the dynamic president of the Club Vela Portocivitanova, and Federico Cellini, owner of ITA 59, and the Italian Dragon Class Vice Champion for 2011, are inviting all Dragon sailors to join and race their Dragons in what promised to be a Dragon classic regatta in the Adriatic Sea coast, the Founders’ Cup Regatta.
How to get there? See the interactive map at http://www.clubvelaportocivitanova.com/ ... rivare.htm
The regatta is open to all Dragons holding a valid measurement certificate. All persons aboard need to be members of their Dragon Class Association. Moorings will be available at the marina of the Club Vela Portocivitanova, while secure car and trailer parking will be provided. The Preliminary Programme sees 3 August – arrival, registration and briefing, 4 August – races, and 5 August – races, and prize giving ceremony. The Notice of Race is available on the yacht club website at http://www.clubvelaportocivitanova.com/ ... datori.htm while you find all kind of accommodation in Civitanova by checking this out http://www.clubvelaportocivitanova.com/ ... lloggi.htm
This is why we invite you, the Dragon owner and lover of Italian art and culture, to join us and sail your Dragon in a new destination! For further information contact eziogianni@gmail.com
