Due to the planned European Championship in Austria in 2012 we are facing a strong interest among Austrian sailors.

At the International Austrian Dragon Championship the Union Yacht Club Attersee hosted 27 Austrian and 12 German teams. From Thursday, July 29. till Sunday, August 1. we have been able to sail 3 races.

The battle for the title was very tight. Only one point was between the first and the third.

Winner was again, as in the last three years the former Olympic sailor Ernst Seidl followed by Franz Hitzenberger with his crew. The third place went to Dietmar Gfreiner, who reinforced his team with the Olympic Star sailor Johann Spitzauer. Place 4 to 6 went to German teams.

The Austrian Championship counts together with the other Austrian major regattas as qualification for the European Championship in 2012. 50 % of the ranking list points of 2010 will be added to the ranking list 2011.
This list then is valid to enter the European championship 2012.

The next major Austian ragatta will take place at the Union Yacht Club Trausee from September 4-5.

Report from the Austrian Nationals 25-28 August 2011 on Attersee.

At the last weekend of August 2011 the Austrian Championship of the Dragon Class took place in the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee. This year's dragon nationals for the participants is the last major event in front of the venue of the Europenas next year.

43 teams from six nations answered the call of UYCAs and went to the start of this top event.

For this national championship, which was scheduled from Thursday, 25. till Sunday, 28.8.2011, six races were planned with a distance of 6 nautical miles. Race officer Gert Schmidleitner could send the participating teams up to three times per day over the course in front of Attersee. With the nice weather of recent days on the Attersee was also the thermal wind - the famous “Rosenwind” passing through the rose gardens of the palace chamber. After two famous days of racing with wind from 3 to 15 knots five races have been sailed. In front of the field there was Vincnet Hösch with his Crew. The locals Christian Scheinecker, Dietmar Gfreiner and the defender of the Austrian titel Ernst Seidl were separated only by four points.

With strong westerly winds and big shifts Vincent Hoesch his team sat down immediately from the field. On the final downwind Gfreiner could even overtake Vincent Hoesch and thus secure his second race victory.

The title of International Champion of Austria goes to Vincent Hoesch / Peter Liebner / Thomas Mayer from Germany, who won the series good head of the Russian crew Leonid Altukhov, Werner Fritz / Michael Lipp.

The new Austrian Champion of the Dragon class is Dietmar Gfreiner, and Johann Spitzauer and Helmut Woller (all UYCAS) ending the series on place three.

The Union-Yacht-Club Attersee is very happy, to have been selected by the International Dragon Class Assiciation to houst the European Championship in the Dragon Class in June 2012.
