Post by Webmaster » Mon Feb 13, 2012 12:25 pm

World elite of dragon sailors is expected for the Dragon Grand Prix June 30th - July 4th 2012.

Boltenhagen, the traditional seaside town on the Baltic coast in the former Eastern part of Germany, made a wonderful setting for the 2011 Dragon European Championship. Therefore the International Dragon Class assigned once again the Dragon Grand Prix Germany as a Grade 1 event of the international ranking list to the marina complex “Weisse Wiek” (White Bay) at Boltenhagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomeriania. In the last two years the “Weisse Wiek” hotel and marina complex has been developed as one of the outstanding new sailing venues worldwide .

The world elite of the Dragon sailors is expected for the 7th Dragon Grand Prix Germany. The reigning European Champion, Jens Christensen, from Denmark has already registered. The World Vice Champion and Gold Cup winner, Markus Wieser will try to defend his Grand Prix title for the third time. To guarantee a first class regatta the number of entries is limited to 75 participants.

As the major German Yacht Club, the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein has been charged with the water organisation. The greatest water sports exhibition of the world, the boot Düsseldorf, will once again honour the best amateur team with the “Corinthian award”. The new automobile partner, VW with the regional car dealer, presents his services to the sailors. TUTIMA, a well-known and exclusive watch manufacturer, is the official timekeeper of the Grand Prix 2012.

The Dragon class supports a major charitable foundation. For the 8th time in succession and as a prelude to the Dragon Grand Prix the CHILDHOOD Race will be sailed, on Saturday, 30th June 2012, in favour of the World Childhood Foundation, founded by her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden.

Close to 1.000.000,-- € have been raised in the past with the help of the CHILDHOOD races for the World CHILDHOOD Foundation - under the motto “top dragon class sailing for children in need”.

For the 8th time in series Marinepool is exclusive and official supplier of this first class Dragon event and the CHILDHOOD Race. Robert Stark, managing partner of the worldwide leading sailing clothing company: “ From the beginning on we have supported this brilliant idea. It is great that our sailing hobby can help the most marginalized children, the ones most often ignored and forgotten. I don’t know any sailing event in the world which has fundraised such a huge amount of money for the good purpose!”

7th Dragon Grand Prix Germany, IDA Grade 1 Event

Post by Webmaster » Sat Jun 02, 2012 7:04 pm

The “HM Queen Silvia Sailing Trophy” will be awarded for the first time for the Dragon Grand Prix Germany 2012. A special honour for the Baltic resort town of Boltenhagen and the „Weiße Wiek“.

For the first time during the Dragon Grand Prix Germany which will take place between 30.06. – 04.07.2012 and as part of the „Weiße Wiek“ in the Baltic resort town Boltenhagen, the “HM Queen Silvia Sailing Trophy” will be awarded as a challenge trophy to the winning team of the Grand Prix.

With the naming and awarding of this special award by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, the long-standing and successful relationship between the World CHILHDOOD Foundation and the Dragon class is ever more confirmed.

Themed "Sailing for children in need" the CHILDHOOD Race will feature on 30 June, 2012 as the opening event of the Dragon Grand Prix Germany for the 8th time. The venue will be the unique sailing arena of the Weiße Wiek Boltenhagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In the past six years the CHILDHOOD Race generated donations of EUR 980 000 for the CHILDHOOD Foundation.

“The social and financial poverty of children affects us all as children are our future.” Out of this conviction, Queen Silvia of Sweden brought to life the World CHILDHOOD Foundation in 1999 together with 14 other co-founders. Its mission is to provide better living conditions for endangered, vulnerable and exploited children and to promote appropriate service projects worldwide.

With the award of this royal challenge trophy the dragon class has once again confirmed its reputation as the class of kings. In 1960 the Greek King Constantine won the first gold medal for Greece in sailing in the then Olympic Dragon class. In addition, many members of European royal families actively compete in the Dragon class. In addition, more than 40 former winners of Olympic medals, World and European Champions challenge each other in this class.

On the occasion of her visit to Germany in 1965, HM Queen Elizabeth of England , the Queen herself awarded the Queen Elizabeth Cup at the Alster lake in the Dragon class. Her husband, Prince Philip is the proud owner of the legendary dragon named "Blue Bottle". The winner was then the young Olympic sailor Ulli Libor who proudly received this prize by Her Majesty.

In 2012 again, the two-time Olympic medalist Ulli Libor will participate as a German Dragon sailor at the start in Boltenhagen and compete with the dragon sailors from around the world to the now launched “HM Queen Silvia Sailing Trophy”. As back then, the regatta organization is in the capable hands of the “Norddeutscher Regatta Verein”.

Claudia Hörl, resort director of the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen is delighted: "It is an honor for Boltenhagen and the Weisse Wiek that the “HM Queen Silvia Sailing Trophy” will in future be awarded under the Dragon Grand Prix here in Mecklenburg Pomerania."

For the 8th time in series Marinepool is exclusive and official supplier of this first class Dragon event and the CHILDHOOD Race. All sailors will get a special edition of a fashionable CHILDHOOD shirt. Within the framework of a photo competition the best “Marinepool for CHILDHOOD crew” will be honoured with a special price.
