Wins for Christian Scheinecker (AUT), Anton Wutschl (AUT), Markus Glas (GER), Ernst Seidl (AUT) is Austrian Champion.
50 Dragons participate in the events of the Dragonsummer in Austria. The pre-event, the „Entenpokal“, July 20th – 21st saw 18 boats at the SCK on Lake Attersee. Light to medium wind conditions on Saturday and Sunday could be used to sail 5 races. Lots of sun, high temperatures and the turquoise water make you believe to sail in the Caribbean. Winner of the series: Christian Scheinecker, Dominik Würfl and Gerhard Wallinger (AUT 218), the title of the „Landesmeister“ went to Dietmar and Anne Gfreiner and Helmut Wollner (AUT 167).
The main-event, the Austrian Championship started 4 days later on Thursday 25th. 39 boats from Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Switzerland and Hungary followed the invitation from the UYCAS and the Austrian dragon fleet. Weather conditions did not change too much, except wind paused or the first 2 days. On Saturday the local „Rosenwind“ came back and the fleet could sail 3 races. Another try for race on Sunday morning had to be cancelled after the start, the “Rosenwind” went asleep again and woke up at afternoon again, too late for a last day race. So Saturday ranks where the final results: with 1, 3, 1 the Bavarian boat builder Markus Glas (GER 1035) with Florian Grosser, Phillipp Ocker wins the series, 2nd place for Braslavets Yevgen (UKR 8), Sidorov Igor, Timokhov Sergiy, 3r place for Markus Wieser (UKR 7), Pugachev Sergey, Thomas Auracher. With 6, 19, 3 and 5th place Ernst Seidl (AUT 136), Thomas Priester and Michael Müller wins the gold medal as Austrian Champions 2013, this was Ernst 7th title in the Dragon class!
A number of classic dragons used the weekend from July 25th – 28th for a break-out session on nearby Lake Wolfgangsee. The “Wolfgangsee Traditionstage” assembled more than 30 classic boats, including 10 classic dragons for racing. Winner of the “Drachenkristall” is Anton Wutschl (AUT 145) sailing an A&R dragon build 1966.
The wonderful locations on Lake Attersee and Wolfgangsee together with the rich social program including, beach parties, gala diners and the dragon festival with the Fiesta Verde Band convinced many participants to come back next year! Planning for the dragon summer 2014 already started…
