We are pleased to announce that Philip Dohse will be assuming responsibility as Chairman of the IDA Technical Committee with effect from 1st March 2011. Germany has the largest Dragon fleet in the world, so it is particularly appropriate that this important position be held by a German national.
Mike Hayles has been Chairman for the last 6 years, has served on the committee for 9 years in total and has decided to retire. Inter alia, during his tenure Mike oversaw the introduction of the increased buoyancy requirement to 2,500 litres, a very important and positive development. Mike will remain on the Committee through 2011 to assist Philip leading up to the technical recommendations at the IDA 2011 Annual General Meeting next October. On all your behalves, I would like to thank Mike for his outstanding contribution to the class for such a long time.
Philip (born 1961) is well qualified for this position, having raced all his life in the Optimist-, 420- and 470-Classes and in Dragons for 16 years. He participates in major regattas as well as on Lake Alster in Hamburg, the northern part of Germany and in Denmark. He is a corporate and commercial lawyer in Hamburg, Germany. Often Philip sails with his wife Nicola or his elder boys but is also crewing when one of the boys is on the helm.
