RVYC’s first one design regatta of the year was held April 11 and 12. And while spring came early in Vancouver, three boats were still hibernating and missed the first race. Saturday conditions were described as light and a little fluky (by those in the lead) and as a series of random events (by those at the back of the pack). At the end of the day, Jim Burn’s Ayrborn was in a solid first place after four races. Sunday was much the same but all contestants agreed that it if it was bad on Saturday, it was worse on Sunday. There were five starts but only one completed race which was won by dragon fly. However, the mighty Ayrborn had a sufficient lead from Saturday’s performance to wrap up first place in the Spring Series. Congratulations to Ayrborn. Second place went to Ken Reid on Eagle and third to Lorne Chapman on Eclipse.
Next regatta is the first weekend in May and then there will be a contingent of RVYC boats going to Seattle to support the re-development of the Seattle fleet two weeks later.
