The Italian Flowers' Riviera and its capital Sanremo have offered the participants the right mixture of good winds for the 2008 International Italian Dragon Cup, from 23rd to 25th May. The winner of the huge old style Challenge Cup has been the boat that best managed both light and 25-knot winds i.e. CHRISTIANNA (IRL 190)(2,12,1,3,1 tot 7), helmed by Olaf Sorensen (Kinsale YC), with Martin Payne and Shawn Kingston. PRINCESS JALINA (GBR 700) by David Palmer (Royal Yacht Squadron), despite her very regular score was obliged to discard a good 4th place (1,3,4,2,3 tot 9) and finished second after being first all along the first two days.

In third place TRAMONTANA by Paolo Manzoni (LNI Milano) with Albino Fravezzi and Filippo Domenicali, conquered the Mauro Gallo Trophy and the Italian Championship. Its leadership among the italian Dragon fleet, where new entries are coming out from confirmed ORC sailors, is confirmed.

Skillful in hard winds, FUZZY DUCK VI by Paul Woodman (Royal Corintian YC), with Malcom Ford and Christopher Ponlove, obtained an excellent first place in one of the last two races (8,4,6,1,6 tot 17), but it was not enough to move ahead, in the final results, TSUICA 2 by Gérard Blanc (YC Cannes) with Jean Gabriel Charton and Richard Pernici (3,2,9,5,5 tot 15).

Regarding the event's organisation, welcome drink and food at the roof garden of the sumptous Casinò di Sanremo, official dinner on the seashore with an exciting cuban girl dancing with the sailormen, luxurious prizes offered by the official sponsor Panerai, without mentioning the welcoming athmosphere of the Yacht Club Sanremo and its restaurant, full of mediterranean flavours and taste. Oh yes ! Fast craning and mooring close to the Club, what else could one possibly want?

Following the participants requests, Yacht Club Sanremo and Cannes Dragon International are already thinking to include Sanremo in the 2008/09 Hiver des Dragons: news follow soon.
