La Baule at it’s Best…….

Derby-dragon-la-baule-2010-jeudi-10-juin-2010-005 (2)

The first day of June saw the sun shine in La Baule, as 45 teams took to the water for an early start (9.30am) off the golden beaches of this idyllic town on the west coast of France. Three races were sailed, back to back, before the boats returned to the harbour for the usual ”après sail” happy hour’s that the Yacht Club La Baule is so famous for….  :-)

In race one it was Dragon legend, Poul-Richard Hoj-Jensen helming his brand new Danish Blue Petticrow GBR 775 who managed to sneak home first after a difficult “snakes and ladders” race. Then in race two, with a similar wind of around 9kts from the north west, FRA 365 helmed by Christain Guyader made a fantastic first beat to lead from start to finish in his recently acquired beautiful ”cold moulded” boat that was sold by Louis Urvois.

In race three the biggest cheer was for Dave Atkins and his team in GBR 782 “Seeing To” who managed to hold off the chasing pack and record their first ever International race win. Dave and his team have recently part exchanged their 2004 Petticrow ”Blue Movie”  to now be the proud owner’s of the latest trade in of Jorgen Schonherr. So well done to Dave and his team there is no holding them back now. :-)

The top three overall boats are 1st GBR 771 “Finito’ (5th, 3rd, 6th) helmed by Martin Payne and crewed by the ever famous Bakker Boy’s, 2nd is FRA 365 Christian Guyader (12th, 1st, 3rd) and 3rd GBR 761 Gavia Wilkinson-Cox (3rd, 14th, 2nd). With many more races to go, this series is by no means over, so keep an eye out for this page each day to see if “The Man” PR Hoj-Jensen can add his 6th La Baule title to his wardrobe of endless trophies……..

Higher, Faster, Longer…………………..  Stavros.   GBR 771 “Finito’
